Lena Frischlich will present our research program within the special section “Digital Society: Presentation of the NRW funding line graduate school and junior research groups” hosted by Caja Thiemm on Thursday, 10th of May, 11:15. In the parallel session about conflict communication, she and Svenja Boberg from the PropStop Project will present insights into the detection of fake accounts and social bots in participatory journalistic offerings, asking “Would the real reader please stand up?” The conference program can be read here.

Discussion at the re:publica 18: “Digital Publicity – and what do we do now?”

Lena Frischlich participated at Germany’s largest Internet conference, the re:publica, which took place from 3 to 5 May in Berlin. She discussed in the panel “Digitale Öffentlichkeit – und was machen wir jetzt?” [Digital public sphere – and what do we do now?] together with Judith Simon, professor of ethics in information technology at the University of Hamburg, Konrad Lischka, who heads the project “Ethics of Algorithms” for the Bertelsmann Foundation and the hacker and speaker for the Chaos Computer Club Linus Neumann. The panel was moderated by Christian Stöcker of HAW Hamburg.

Felix Brinkschulte will participate at the DFPK18 (Düsseldorfer Forum Politische Kommunikation 2018). The conference is organized by master students of the Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf and enables young scientists to discuss their scientific projects in front of an audience. Felix Binkschulte will present his master thesis with the title “Online Networks of the Right. An exploratory study for the acquisition of digital structures with the initial point of the right-wing populist actor »AfD«.” The conference program can be read here.

“Digital Society- and now?” Panel at the re:publica18

Lena Frischlich will participate in the panel “Digitale Öffentlichkeit – und was machen wir jetzt?” [Digital public sphere – and what do we do now?] at the re:publica18 (May, 2018). The panel is organized by Prof. Christian Stöcker from HSW Hamburg – a colleague from the PropStop Project.  They will discuss togehter with Linus Neumann from the Chaos Computer Club and Big-data ethics expert Prof. Judith Simon from the University of Hamburg how the digitalization impacts society.

Dr. Lena Frischlich published a chapter with the title “Fake News and Social Bots – Recognition, effect, control” in the new book “German public service broadcasting authorities in times of populism. A Workshop of the Deutschlandradio together with the Institution for Information-, Telecommunication- and Media law (ITM)”, edited by Bernd Holznagel and Willi Steul. The book can be ordered here.
